Russia demanded that Germany officially recognize the siege of Leningrad as genocide

The Russian Federation demanded that Germany officially recognize the siege of Leningrad as genocide. TASS reports this with reference to the corresponding diplomatic note.

According to the Russian side, Germany does not demonstrate clarity on the issue of the Leningrad blockade. The Russian Foreign Ministry believes that crimes against humanity committed by the Third Reich should be recognized as genocide at the official level. In addition, the Russian Federation is confident that other actions of the Nazis should be recognized as genocide.

The Foreign Ministry noted that Berlin has been leaving Moscow’s requests regarding the blockade of Leningrad and the status of this tragedy at the official level unanswered for many years. The Kremlin is asking the German government to extend payments for Jews to Leningraders who survived the siege.
